Young eyes void of innocence gaze outside a window
Her elbows rest on the sill, watching the stars in the sky
Still a child, when she sees the flash of light from a falling star
Her eyes widen when she catches sight of it
She hurriedly clasps her hands in a prayer
And whispers her wish to the unreachable heavens
"Please let them stay together…"
If she could open her eyes to find the world as it was in her memories
The sky's tears would finally cease to fall
The cracked glass threatening to break beneath her feet would repair
And the vivid brightness of the past would return in the present
"Please let them remember they love each other…"
The air wouldn't be cold with bitterness and disappointment
Laughing voices would once again fill the home
The warmth of the sunlight would bring heat to even her comfortably numb spirit
There could be happiness outside her distant dreams
"I pray they remember they once loved each other…"
Gone would be the agony of a loveless marriage
No longer would angered screams awaken her in the middle of the night
Never again would tears gather in her eyes the moment she opened them
For no mere child should know how to fake a smile
"May they smile instead of fight tomorrow…"
Outside of a world of dreams
They'd welcome her with smiles warm as the sunlight
She'd never open her door by only an inch again
To clearly hear the hateful curses they spat at each other
Happiness would be all that she felt
And it wouldn't just be a false parody
Nor a veil to make everything seem alright to random passerby
But such a utopia is not what ordained
The sky will always cry
The rain will never stop
"Give me eternal sleep, so I can always stay with you."
